In Feburary 2023 I collaborated with young people and took a series of photograph that distorted the architecture and paintings on display at The National Gallery. By challenging the Genuis Loci of the gallery, this series aims to produce a sense of ownership on the legacy of colonialism and aristocracy and demonstrate to young people unconventional ways of claiming ownership towards a site that doesn't belong to them.
Using flexible mirrors asking young people to hold flexible mirror in various and unconventional ways on a busy day at National Gallery, we slowly became live artworks and challenged the existing power relations that various paintings on display exert in the location.
This series of photogaraphs is a part of a project I lead with The National Gallery and City Year Project. Please click on the link below to see the project I lead.
