Poems
poetry has had fundamental presence and my upbringing as a Muslim. It has also established a key position in the expression my uprooted identity and negotiation of power-relations in my everyday life.
I have been experimenting with different ways to present and materialise my own poetry. These works operate as a means of investigating my diasporic identity. My approach to poetry explores my ambiguous and ever-fluctuating position between my culturally acquired Western and inherited Islamic identities and perspectives. For this purpose, I have adopted one of the most iconic strategies of poetry-making in Western literature since modernism; the Cut-Up technique
My poems are made from widely available tabloid newspapers, such as Daily Express, Metro, and various religious scriptures.
